I invited bassist Dan Kleederman to join me for the wonderful opportunity to support a great cause, a benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity in Hudson, NY at Club Helsinki. Dan and I were the opening act. It was a great night that featured great musicians who also call Hudson home: Tommy Stinson, Melora Creager, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Melissa Auf der Mauer. Hence the name for the benefit Home Bass: 4 Strings, 4 Hearts. It was fun performing with another musician on stage.

I met Mithun in the Grand Central Shuttle station where he filmed me for his series "Back Of The Busk" he came the following day to Union Square and interviewed me in the park during the farmers market. Later he came down to my gig and filmed me singing the song I wrote for historian Rebecca Price for her ChickHistory series HerStory. The song is called "HerStory Not Forgotten" That's me sporting my Left On Red t-shirt from friends + subway musicians Liah and Kelly.

During the time I was writing this song, I learned of Eve Ensler's new initiative project 1 Billion Rising a massive campaign to get people into the streets on February 14, 2013 to dance, sing shout our against violence. I had the melody of the HerStory song in my head and quickly adapted the lyrics to a new version for 1 Billion rising. It is called Rise Against Violence. you can listen to an audio of it here.

August 8, 2012 live at Joe's Pub performing one of my favorite Dylan songs. My 7th grade teacher Earl Bidwell one day in class said, "you're all going to write a song today." It lit a spark that has kept me stoked to this day. When I graduated junior high school, Mr. Bidwell gave me a songbook entitled "Bob Dylan: A Retrospective" I still have it, worn and dog eared. Inside the inscription reads "I hope Dylan's music will inspire your own. Earle Bidwell" Almost 30 years later, I can say it has.

One Guitar Live at Joe's Pub

I chose to sing One Guitar by Willie Nile and Frankie Lee during my August 8th Joe's Pub concert, because it epitomizes the power of song. I've been brought up as a singer songwriter, interpreter who believes music crosses boundaries between love and hate. Here 2 chords and a simple lyric tell a deeply empowering tale: "I'm a soldier marching in the army, got no gun to shoot, all I got is one guitar, this one guitar."

I performed at the 15th annual Winter Walk in Hudson, NY in the store of a friend from NYC who recently opened her own shop. This clip really shows the spirit and energy of audience. People walked up and down Warren St, closed off to traffic for the event.
